INTERVIEW

How do you feel about participating in the BANPRESTO WORLD FIGURE COLOSSEUM 2018?

I have been working on various kinds of sculpting for a long time but I have never tried characters from an anime before. This is my first step to the next chapter of my career and I would like to take advantage of this chance.

Of all the art forms, why did you pick sculpting or become a sculptor?

When I started sculpting figures, I participated in an public exhibition without knowing. As a result, I was awarded a great prize and that made me want to start sculpting as a business. It is really fun work for me to sculpt figures which I can do both my hobbies and business.

How do you feel about the franchise for which you selected?

Actually, my original plan was to sculpt Dragon Ball character because I know the story and the characters a lot more. However, during my preparation, I watched One Piece and I was completely absorbed in that story and lost track of time. This made me very curious to sculpt a One Piece character.

Tell us the reason why you chose the character you did. (And why did you pose it that way?)

There are many characters who eat a Devil Fruit and are gifted supernatural powers in One Piece. I always feel like I experienced the unknown adventure while watching and there were a lot of happenings which I have never expected. This made me change my mind about which character I really want to make. About the God Usopp scene, I got a feeling of helplessness when all of the characters that have supernatural powers change to toys. But then Usopp conquered his horror and he leads them to victory due to his ingenuity. Usopp is just a normal person but he has strong guts and he can win. I think he has personal magnetism and I can see myself in that part. That is the reason I chose Usopp.

What makes your style of sculpting unique?

The shining eyes, even if he is in hopeless situation.

If you were a One Piece character who would you be? And why?

Usopp. I have high ideals but reality is not like that. So having guts is the only thing that we have in common.

How do you feel about the other contestants?

BWFC is a competition, but I would like to be friends with the other participants and that would be great if we can share our experiences through each other’s work.

Is there anything you like to say to your fans?

I think most people don’t know who I am, because I am just beginning. I will do my best to show you my great work and hope you like it.
