UROTA has participated in 3 different Banpresto Figure Colosseums in the past, with his Buggy from Sculpting King IV being a representative piece of his skills.
U: Like the past 3 tournaments I have been allowed to participate, I am honored once again. This time I will be participating in the World Sculpting tournament as one of the members of team Japan. Although this is a pressure I’ve never felt before, I’m looking forward at the opportunity for me to test my skills against the world.
U: I worked at a studio for 7 years before I became independent where I learned the fundamentals. Working at a toy company, I was able to see plenty of high quality models and learn about the production process of models. As for modeling, I learned both digital and analog methods and was taught how important basic sketches were. Because of this training, I am able to continue my work with my passion, figures, and feel extremely blessed.
U: Sculpting King 4: Buggy This is the figure I created in the first tournament I entered. I remember just having so much fun making it. SMSP: Jotaro Kujo It was an honor working on a character from a program I was setting as a goal.
U: I don’t really have a rule per say but I always try to value the world of the product and the character’s vibe. I’m not the type to amaze people with craftsmanship so I try to express the feel and warmth of the original program through sculpting. This tournament is an international tournament so I will follow my sculpting values mentioned above while trying to create something international figure lovers will enjoy as well.
U: The list of manga and characters I love is way too long to list. I really like the artist, Rockin’ Jelly Bean and would love to work on models based on his artistic style one day. As for international artist, I love the creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola’s artistic style.
U: I think the difference in character culture, not the creator, causes the projects to focus on reality. Sculpting King allows for some degree of freedom so I’m excited to see how the international competitors use their intuition to interpret the characters and design their models.
U: One Piece is a comic that represents Japan so we have to win! Since I was given the chance to participate in the tournament again, I will make the best figure possible to win! I’m going to do my best to create something that not only the domestic fans will want but also the international fans as well! Hope you guys will root for me!
